The book “The Warehouse of Albanian Communism” is a product of a long research work in the field as well as other sources, such as: libraries, the internet, and social media in order to gather, organize and interpret the objects that accompanied the lives of Albanian people throughout communism. This is a collection of 500 selected images grouped by: food ration cards, furniture, home appliances: heaters, cooking stoves, lamps; corded line phones, photo cameras and clocks, cookers, coffee and coffee utensils, cigarettes and utensils for cigarettes, water and various juices, food and drinks, clothing, blankets, throws and tablecloths, toys and school supplies, office supplies, bicycles and motorcycles, money and other different objects. Along with these objects, in the book there are also a number of acts published in official newspapers, ideological banners and facsimile.
Hence, this book serves as a visual archive, a catalogue of collections from socialist stores, aiming to offer an “alternative” story of Albanian communism through the visual culture of the “everyday-life objects”; through the history of the infiltration of the communist project into urban and private life; through its efforts for a total unification of people’s taste.
